Chiang Mai Information
When we first arrived in Chiang Mai, We
immediately fell in love with it. Chiang Mai is a lovely
historic city surrounded beautiful mountains and rivers.
The food is fantastic. The people are warm, laid-back
and friendly. Thailand’s second largest city, Chiang
Mai retains much of its lanna heritage and country town
charm, yet has all the conveniences of a big city.
Chaing Mai is a great place to live or retire, or have
a home away from home.
Hike in the mountains, have a beer or a glass of wine
by the Ping River, stroll the weekend street markets,
meet friends for coffee on the trendy Nimanhaemin Road,
play on some of the world-class golf courses, there
is something for everyone.
Chiang Mai is also an ideal "stepping-stone"
to explore the North of Thailand. From here, you can
access places like Chiang Rai and the mysterious Golden
Triangle, as well as "the
city of three mists", Mae Hong Son and the
magical Pai.

| Weather
December to February is the "cool"
season. The daytime temperature is fairly comfortable
with the maximum temperature around 25?C/78?F, but can
get up to 30C/83?F. At night, the weather is cooler,
and can drop to near freezing in the mountains. The
days are clear. This is the most popular season for
travellers.
February to May is considered
"hot" season, and the temperature can get
up to 35C /88?F. The end of March can be quite warm,
and there tend to a lot of haze due to the slash and
burn agricultural practises. April brings short storms
that help to cool and clear the air, and by May, the
rain arrives.
May to November
is the "rainy" or "green" season.
Normally, the sky is clear in the mornings, and cloudy
in the afternoons. Don’t let the rain put you off travelling
to Chiang Mai during this period though. The rain usually
come in short bursts of in the afternoon or early evenings,
and usually only last an hour or so (not the whole day).
This is also a good time to come because the landscape
is beautifully green, there are not as many other tourists
around, and accommodation prices are usually cheaper.
(Please note the official "High" season starts in November).
The average maximum temperature during this period is
around 31C/84?F.
